A logarithmic lower bound for time-spread multiple-access (TSMA) protocols

چکیده
Time-Spread Multiple-Access (TSMA) protocols are scheduled access protocols for mobile multi-hop radio networks that guarantee deterministic access to the shared channel regardless of the possibility of radio interference. In scheduled access methods, time is considered to be slotted and time slots are cyclically organized into frames. In general, the shorter the frame, the more efficient the protocol. An Ω(log logn) lower bound is known on the minimum length of the frame of TSMA protocols in networks with n nodes. In this note we improve that lower bound by characterizing the multiple access to the radio channel as a combinatorial problem. The proposed characterization allows us to prove that no TSMA protocols can successfully schedule the transmissions of the nodes of a multi-hop radio network in frames with less than logn time slots.

An Adaptive Time-Spread Multiple-Access Policy for Wireless Sensor Networks
Sensor networks require a simple and efficient medium access control policy achieving high system throughput with no or limited control overhead in order to increase the network lifetime by minimizing the energy consumed during transmission attempts. Time-spread multiple-access (TSMA) policies that have been proposed for ad hoc network environments, can also be employed in sensor networks, sinc...
متن کاملMobility - Independent Flooding for Real - Time , Multimedia Applications in Ad Hoc Networks
This paper describes the use of TimeSpread Multiple-Access (TSMA) protocols for realizing the dissemination (“flooding”) of data and/or control packets in networks characterized by the lack of a fixed infrastructure (ad hoc networks). We show that, due to the unique characteristics of TSMA, namely, that it is independent of the changes in the network topology due to node mobility and it is dete...

This paper studies the use of IEEE 802.16d mesh MAC protocol for multi-hop networking in an indoor domestic environment. The mesh network is expected to support time-sensitive audio–video applications with stringent QoS requirement. In the literature, time-spread multiple access (TSMA) is a promising technology to provide a minimum throughput guarantee in a multi-hop mesh network with dynamic t...
متن کاملOutage Probability Bound and Diversity Gain for Ultra-Wideband Multiple-Access Relay Channels with Correlated Noises
In this paper, Ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple access relay channel with correlated noises at the relay and receiver is investigated. We obtain outer and inner bounds for the IEEE 802.15.3a UWB multiple access relay channel, and also, a diversity gain bound. Finally, we evaluate some results numerically and show that noise correlation coefficients play important role in determining relay position.
متن کاملBounds for Multiple-Access Relay Channels with Feedback via Two-way Relay Channel
In this study, we introduce a new two-way relay channel and obtain an inner bound and an outer bound for the discrete and memoryless multiple access relay channels with receiver-source feedback via two-way relay channel in which end nodes exchange signals by a relay node. And we extend these results to the Gaussian case. By numerical computing, we show that our inner bound is the same with o...
